Virtual Learning Options 2021-22

Virtual Learning Academy K-8

  • Virtual Learning Academy for Students in Kindergarten - 8th Grade

LVJUSD announces the inaugural year of its Virtual Learning Academy in 2021-22. This program, housed within Vineyard Alternative School, is designed to develop collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking skills that prepare students for success in our digital age. Real-world understanding and skills will be developed through project-based learning in partnership with flexible options that are possible through distance learning. The focus will be on empowering students to become successful, self-directed learners.

Key Features of the Virtual Learning Academy

    • Classes will be held online, with students and teachers interacting daily through the online classroom.
    • Teachers will be fully credentialed LVJUSD teachers.
    • Students will be provided with instruction in the same subject areas as they would if they were to stay in person.

How to Enroll in the Virtual Learning Academy for Current LVJUSD Students

    • Parents will complete an intra-district transfer request that will enroll their child in the Virtual Learning K-8 Academy, offered through Vineyard Alternative School.
    • Please visit livermoreschools.org/transfer to access the intra-district request form and select “Virtual Learning Academy K-8” from the dropdown menu.

How to Enroll in the Virtual Learning Academy for New LVJUSD Students

    • For a new Livermore resident student who is not currently registered for 2021-22 school year, please first submit a pre-registration form through our website, and submit the required documents to your residence school. Once the enrollment process is completed, the second step will be to request a transfer to attend our Virtual Learning Academy by submitting an intra-district request through our website and select "Virtual Learning Academy K-8"
    • Visit livermoreschools.org/enrollment and livermoreschools.org/transfer for detailed instructions.

Virtual Learning Program 9-12

  • Virtual Learning Program for Students in Grades 9-12

Students attending Granada, Livermore, and Del Valle High Schools are invited to participate in a Virtual Learning 9-12 Program in 2021-22. Similar to the K-8 academy, the 9-12 program will provide students with flexibility as they learn collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking skills and complete the courses required for graduation in LVJUSD. Students participating in the virtual high school program will be fully prepared to continue their education after their high school graduation.

Key Features of the Virtual Learning 9-12 Program

    • Classes will be held online, with students and teachers interacting daily through the online classroom.
    • Teachers will be fully credentialed LVJUSD teachers.
    • Students will enroll in core subjects through their online classes: English, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Spanish will be offered as a World Language option.
    • Elective options will be offered based on the number of students enrolled in the program and their interest in specific courses that are suited to online learning. They may be available through flexible online or asynchronous options.
    • Students will remain enrolled in their home high school and, therefore, will be able to participate in any sports, extracurricular activities, and events offered to students at their school who attend in person.

At the high school level, students will retain an affiliation with their home school. While classes may include students from more than one high school, each student will still be a part of their home school and is eligible to participate in sports and extracurricular activities at their high school, even while enrolled in the virtual academy. Students will graduate at their home high school.

How to Enroll in the 9-12 Virtual Learning Program

    • Parents will complete a commitment form for each student who will participate in the program in 2021-22. Once the form is completed, students will be rescheduled from in-person classes to online classes in the virtual learning program. If a course that has been selected during online registration is not available through the virtual program, students will be contacted by their counselors to make alternate selections.
