• Should I take the SAT/ACT (Class of 2021 and 2022)?

In response to COVID-19, a growing number of colleges that had previously required SAT or ACT scores are moving to a test-optional policy for the Class of 2021 and possibly beyond. It is important that you regularly check the websites of colleges to which you are considering applying so you can stay on top of their requirements in real-time.

    What does "test-optional" mean?

    • You choose whether or not to submit SAT/ACT scores with your application
    • If you are unable or choose not to submit test scores, your application will still receive full consideration

    Class of 2021:

    • If you have taken the SAT/ACT or plan to take it this fall and are satisfied with your scores, we suggest that you submit them as part of your application
    • If the college(s) that you are applying to are test-optional and you choose not to submit them, your application will still receive full consideration
    • Please check with each individual college you are applying to in order to know the testing poilicies before you make a decision to submit or not submit your scores

    Class of 2022:

    • Many colleges have not yet made decisions regarding testing policies for the Class of 2022 but we will continue to update this page when new information becomes available
    • If a college requires the SAT/ACT for admissions, we recommend that juniors take the SAT/ACT in the spring of their junior year and/or the fall of the senior year
    • Testing sites are extremely limited due to COVID-19 so it is important that you register for tests early
    • Please check with each individual college you are applying to in order to know the testing poilicies before you make a decision to take or not take a test
