LVJUSD to Hold Board Candidate Information Night

June 29, 2020 – Livermore, CA – The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) has announced it will hold a Board Candidate Information Night for those interested in running for one of two vacant seats on its Board of Education, the policy-making body of the LVJUSD. On Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 7:00 pm, interested community members are invited to attend, listen, and ask questions during the informal workshop session held in the LVJUSD Board Room at 685 E. Jack London Boulevard. In accordance with the Alameda County Public Health’s Shelter in Place Order 20-14a, face masks will be required when in attendance and seating will be organized to maintain 6 feet of social distance between individuals.

In an effort to provide accurate information for voters to reference while considering candidacy, the Candidate Information Night will offer details about the District, roles and responsibilities of public service as a Board member, and the election process. Additional topics will include a meetings calendar; timelines for candidates; conflict of interest and campaign reporting requirements; City regulations regarding campaign signs; and the California Fair Political Practices Commission rules. All filing documents may be obtained at the Alameda County Office of the Registrar of Voters beginning July 13, 2020 and must be completed by August 7, 2020, which is the official Candidate Nomination Period.

The five trustees of the LVJUSD Board of Education serve staggered four-year terms. The two open seats this year will be decided on November 3, 2020. Currently, the seats are held by Board Clerk Chuck Rogge and Trustee Chris Wenzel.

Serving on the local Board of Education is one of the most meaningful ways to contribute to one’s community. Being a trustee of the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District does not require a degree in education or a background in politics. It does require a sincere interest and strong investment in the community and the education of its children.
