The third grade teaching team includes Carol King, Pamela Young, Lyndsie Roy, Nancy Douma, and myself. We work closely together -- collaborating and sharing ideas regarding effective teaching methods and best practices in order to provide a caring school community which maximizes learning and bolsters achievemnet.
In the third grade we have many programs, strong curriculum, and fun activities. We enhance the children's learning experience with field trips including the Ohlone Study at Shadow Cliffs, the Exploratorium in San Francisco, the downtown Livermore History Walk and Tour, Ag Day at LHS, and our fun end-of-the-year swim party at RLCC. We have engaging and rigorous learning in the classrooms addressing students' needs with differentiated instruction during our P.A.L. (personalized academic learning) periods, understanding math concepts using Pearson curriculum, and reading and writing using the district adopted Benchmarks program. We have a fun P.E. rotation schedule we have designed for the students. In addition, we have our Friday Enrichment Program where classes rotate to different teachers who specialize in art, social studies, gardening, and exploration in our MakerSpace classroom. We also have younger "buddy" classes where we learn to work with and help younger students. We have three BIG projects (one each trimester) that tie curriculum to creativity, community and fun -- the Weather Report, the Science Odyssey Project, and the Living Museum Biography. We include our third grade special day class in the activities, working with and caring for all the children in our grade level. (It really does take a village.) It's a fun year for third graders and teachers alike.
