Mr. Lieven Smart has been teaching at Junction Ave School since 2018, after 8 years of teaching elementary school, middle school, and high school elsewhere in Livermore and other districts. He graduated from California State University, East Bay with a Bachelor's Degree in trumpet performance and music education, while performing in symphonic band, jazz band, orchestra, and choir. At Junction, Mr. Smart teaches all the music classes offered, including bands, orchestras, choir, and 4th and 5th grade general music. 

Mr. Smart lives in Dublin with his wife and daughter, and they enjoy movies, board games, and going to the park together. Mr. Smart also loves to play Dungeons and Dragons, and is a co-advisor for Junction's D&D Club. While on vacation, the Smart Family enjoys traveling, camping, hiking, and going to Disneyland. Through his travels, Mr. Smart has become a life-long learner of history and enthusiastically shares interesting pieces of knowledge in his lessons.
