Honors Social Science 9A/B (H) (P)

This Honors Social Science 9A/B course fulfills the 5-unit freshman social science requirement and provides 5 units of elective credit. This course is designed for the serious student with advanced reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, and is a gateway class to the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement pathways. Through a study of physical and cultural geography, students will collect, describe and analyze data, test hypotheses, and learn how to interpret complex information including original source material. The focus on real-world examples through research and analysis is an essential aspect of this class. A major goal of this course is to understand the diversity of man and his culture. Themes woven throughout our course of study include geography, politics, economics, religion, and social tradition. Areas of study may include Latin America, Africa, South Asia, Southwest Asia, East Asia and the Pacific World, Southeast Asia, and Northern Eurasia.
