Dr. Kelly Bowers

Superintendent Bowers has led the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District since 2010. She has extensive professional experience as an educator: thirteen years as an elementary, middle, and high school teacher in both urban and suburban settings, as well as nineteen years of site and district level administrative experience. She taught math, science, English, social science, drama, theater arts, journalism and leadership in the New Haven Unified School District and in Livermore schools. In LVJUSD, she served as an Activities and Athletic Director, Teacher on Special Assignment, middle school principal, Director of Curriculum and Special Projects, and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services prior to being appointed LVJUSD Superintendent of Schools.

Her leadership in LVJUSD focuses on ensuring equity, creating opportunities for all students to contribute and thrive. She has led the development of programs such as Dual Immersion, Green Engineering, and International Baccalaureate that offer diverse paths to success. An emphasis on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, especially through the implementation of Project Lead the Way courses from TK through 12th grade, has earned our district national recognition. Dr. Bowers is particularly committed to supporting the whole child, and continues to lead our schools in the development of behavioral and social emotional learning. Because of her efforts, our district is taking the lead in developing mental health resources for students, staff, and families.

As a first generation college attendee, Superintendent Bowers’ pursuit of high level leadership roles in education arises from her desire to contribute, to motivate, and to improve upon the status quo. She staunchly believes all children deserve an excellent educational foundation with multiple opportunities for higher education and a range of career choices. Her work has been honored by the Association of California School Administrators, the American Association of University Women, Phi Delta Kappa, and California State University East Bay. She is a frequent presenter at educational conferences and is actively involved as a community leader.

Dr. Bowers is committed to leveraging her doctoral studies and pivotal educational leadership role in order to act as a change agent and make her mark on public education for the betterment of students, teachers and families residing in the larger Bay Area, Tri-Valley region and Livermore community she calls home.
